Outdoor Show
The 2007 Outdoor Adventure Show was back for another year, and this time with enough floor space to have some real fun on bikes. Trail Crew Design and a committed crew of dudes, bros, volunteers and an impressive list of sponsors such as Bowcycle, Mission Snow and Skate(and BMX), Urie Dog Bikes, Mountain Monkey Cycle, Yodo Distribution, NRG and Deity Components came together to put on a show, dubbed the Alberta MTBMX Freestyle Championships. The course consisted of 2 pallets of scaffolding, a truckload of plywood, 600 cubic meters of mighty fine clay, a mini half pipe turned into two quarter pipes purchased from the bargain finder, and a contraption that was lovingly labelled
nacho Puente by the crew because it looked very taco chip-ish.

The construction started Thursday morning. Two skid steers were tearing around the stampede roundup center, scaffolding went up and ramps were put in place. And near 10pm on Friday, the course was being ridden and agreed with. There were up to 4 hits crowded into one line, and TCD knew the show would please both the contestants and crowd. A lot of local riders came out and put in shovel time during the construction. Without their support the course would not have been as rad as it turned out to be.

With 30+ registered riders, there was no need for an elimination day. Instead, Saturday turned into a jam session with everybody taking turns getting a chance to put tires to dirt and please the crowd. The riders from Mission showed up, put on a couple of demos and then stayed to ride with everyone. Even an old school bunny hop contest went on for some schwag.

Sunday was competition day - the day Calgary riders were looking forward to. The course was baked clay and still holding solid, after a sprinkle of moisture and the love of a tiger torch; the Alberta MTBMX freestyle championships were under way. The contest was loaded with 360s, Tail Whips, Tail Whip 360s, Back Flips, 720s, someone may have tried a Disaster, huge boosty Bar Humps, Pendulums, and loads of laughs and good times. Around 3pm prizes were handed out to 6 finalists - first to third place in the junior and senior categories.
The day was not over and TCD still had 2 hours of go time with prizes to give away. The riders were getting tired but still wanted to ride. (I think it was snowing and they just didn't want to ride home.) After a team huddle, two best trick contests were lined up. One winner wowed the spectators with smooth style on the banked wall, and a trick that we at TCD have never seen before won the prize on the channelled quarter pipe.
